 (From Adventure Network International)
Day 1 - Flight from Punta Arenas, Chile to the Adventure Network
International (ANI) Patriot Hills Camp (approximately 4.5 hours depending on
wind). Initial part of the flight passes over Tierra del Fuego, the
southernmost area in Chile. The aircraft lands on runway of blue ice 3,300 ft
(1,000m) above sea level. The blue ice remains clear of snow due to the
Katabatic winds which tunnel down from the mountains. Equipment is transferred
to ski-equipped aircraft for the flight to Vinson base camp (approximately 1
hour and 15 minutes). After landing at base camp, the climbing route is
reviewed and equipment arranged for the journey.
Day 2-12 - These days are spent attempting to reach the summit of
Antarctica's highest mountain. The success rate for ANI's clients on the
summit is over 95%. While Vinson is not considered a technically difficult
peak, the mountain is high, temperatures well below freezing, and the area
remote.
Day 13 - Once back in base camp, a full aircraft load is ready and
waiting, and the weather is suitable, the guide will contact Patriot Hills and
an aircraft will be dispatched.
Day 14 - ANI's aircraft arrives from Punta Areanas at Patriot Hills where explorers are flown back to Chile.
