I climbed with Eugene on the Machame route in five days. There were three porters who accompanied us to the high camp. The weather was good and I was well acclimatized having spent a week in Breckenridge prior to the climb. On summit day we left at around 1:30am. We reached the top at about 7:50am. We hung out on the summit for a while as it was a perfect day. The Canadians were on the route as well and it was good to know they made the summit. We descended to our next camp at around 11,000 feet. We arrived there at about 1:30pm. The following day we motored off the mountain descending through many different zones and many different types of mud. The order of the day was not to slip. Both Ray and Eugene made it without slipping. However, one of Ray's porters went down in the mud.
The Africa part of the trip concluded with Ray taking a five day safari through Tanzania. Highlights included the Serengeti, Ngorogrono Crater, Olduvai Gorge, and Lake Manyara. Ray then spent a couple of days in Amsterdam. This part of the trip had to be shortened due to the initial problems with getting to Tanzania. During that snafu, Ray's flight to Kili was canceled and he ended up going through Narobi, then there was the lost luggage, and so on and so forth.
