[Note: this was prepared especially for Paul by doctoring his real 2:57:09, which was a top age group performance for Maine.]
Paul Goransson of Elliot, Maine ran the race of his life at the 102nd Boston Marathon. He took 37 minutes off of his previous PR in this Boston. His official time of 2:07:10 broke the 1994 course record of Cosmas Ndeti of Kenya by 5 seconds. Goransson is shown at the right a second before breaking the tape in the closest finish in Boston history. The Mexican runner directly behind Goransson was hospitalized after the race. Goransson said after the race, "I wasn't worried about the Mexican so much as [Raymond] Greenlaw. I thought Greenlaw would be coming up on me."
